Chronic Illness Whether we are struggling with a life threatening illness of our own or one of someone who we love, the diagnosis, medical issues and emotions facing us can be overwhelming. There is little else so frightening and overwhelming as facing an "incurable" disease. There is so much to do medically, in terms of treatments and interventions that it can be easy to place our emotional health second to our physical fight. And yet, the emotional impact such a fight can have on us and on those we love is integral to our physical health as well. Counselors who specialize in working with terminal illness know how to work with the emotional issues that surround dealing with a terminal illness and facing the possibility of our own death. Having someone to talk with us and those we love about such an illness can allow us to say the things we need to say, as well as help us come to our own sacred and personal decisions about addressing unfinished emotional business in our lives and determining how and when to fight and how and when we let go.
