Assessment

 

Sometimes we may be referred to a psychologist who can perform psychological assessment as a part of a diagnostic interview, to more deeply understand what is troubling us. School systems and work environments will also frequently refer us for psychological assessment as a part of a routine evaluation process to determine what our areas of competence are.

Psychological assessment is a process of pencil and paper, interview and performance based tests which allow the evaluator to determine such things as:

  • IQ

  • Developmental Level

  • Personality Characteristics

  • Diagnosis of learning disabilities or mental illness

Only those counselors specifically trained in psychological assessment can perform the tests and interviews designed to produce this specific information. The following counselors are trained in psychological assessment:
