Residency Program

The Residency in Pastoral Counseling (RPC) at Center for Pastoral Counseling of Virginia is designed to provide advanced training in the skills of integrating spirituality and psychotherapy. Many counselors have found the residency helpful in gathering practice hours toward licensure while honing their skills in the professional integration of faith and emotional healing, while other counselors have come to us already licensed, and looking to gain more skills in the field of working with clients effectively around spiritual issues. The RPC is open to anyone who has completed a Masters degree in pastoral counseling, counseling psychology, marriage and family therapy, or a related discipline.

Residents work in CPC’s centers and counsel clients with a broad range of issues. Residents receive one hour of individual supervision and two hours of group supervision each week from licensed supervisors on CPC’s staff. Group supervision includes clinical case presentations as well as seminars on topics such as spiritual growth, faith development, couples counseling, and play therapy with children. Residents are invited to help plan the content of seminars to further their training in areas of special interest.

Tuition for the Residency is $1600 per term, or $3200 per year. Each term is 16 weeks long. The Residency begins in September and continues through May of the following year, with the option of continuing to see clients over the summer. Residents may be invited to continue in the program for a second year. To help offset the cost of tuition, residents receive 70% of all client fees they collect.
