Faith & Anxiety

Looking for Love...?

Journal Writing for Health and Self-Discovery

Awakening the Creative Spirit with Music Evoked Imagery (MEI)

FAITH & ANXIETY

led by Cheryl Zandt Venzor, MDiv, MS

The number of people experiencing a level of anxiety that interferes with their daily routine increases every year.  What is anxiety?  What role does faith play in dealing with and healing anxiety?  While a faith tradition offers comfort to many who struggle with anxiety, a person’s faith can also exacerbate anxiety when the two seem to contradict each other.  This 2-hour workshop is designed to educate ministers and lay caregivers about the nature of clinical anxiety and to promote spiritual and scriptural exploration.  This workshop is also very appropriate for those who live with anxiety and are looking for ways to approach their faith meaningfully.

LOOKING FOR LOVE…?

led by Kevin L. Ogle, DMin.

Are you an otherwise successful person who has had trouble finding or sustaining a healthy romantic relationship?  Do you sometimes wonder what a date is really thinking or feeling?  This workshop offers a safe place to ask your questions about the ins and outs of conscious dating.  Using skills described in Harville Hendrix’s book, Keeping the Love You Find, you will increase your self-awareness and explore conscious dating as a path to establishing healthy committed relationships.

JOURNAL WRITING FOR HEALTH AND SELF-DISCOVERY

led by Leia Francisco, MA, CSC

Writing in your journal can powerfully enhance your emotional and physical well-being.  You will discover new dimensions of your personal and spiritual journey through writing, with tools proven to enlighten and heal.  Understanding how to use different journaling techniques for different situations will increase your enjoyment of journal writing and provide new insight into the joys and challenges of your world.  Journal writing is a way to “construct the self,” to perceive emotional truth as well as factual truth.

We meet you where you are.  You will experience a safe and trusting environment for this exploration.  Being a good writer is not at all important, you do not have to share your writing, and we leave the rules of grammar and spelling at the door.

AWAKENING THE CREATIVE SPIRIT with Music-Evoked Imagery

led by Celia Im, D.M.A.

For anyone seeking a creative approach to professional and personal growth.  This introductory group session features “Music-Evoked Imagery” (MEI), a powerful process that uses music to engage the active imagination, intuitive awareness, and unique creative expression.  It offers a way to bypass analytical, linear thinking to access the active imagination.

Many of us have dreams, daydreams, meditations and musings that leave us wondering if there is more insight to glean from them. During this introductory session, we will use short music experiences to allow the non-verbal metaphors to unfold with more understanding.  We will then explore some tools to glean insight and clarity into our everyday questions and situations.

led by Celia Im, D.M.A.

This group is open to anyone wishing a new and deeper understanding and executing a different approach to weight management and emotional eating.

MINDFUL SKILLS FOR MINDFUL LIVING

led by Rev. Rusty Lynn, LCSW and Rev. Cheryl Zandt-Venzor, MDiv, MS

Mindfulness is living well by living each moment and finding peace within ourselves.  It has been clinically shown to aid those living with depression, anxiety, and chronic pain and is also generally recognized as a valuable tool in seeking psychospiritual health and balance.  This 8-week course will introduce mindfulness meditation and other techniques for calming and grounding for those who feel life moves too fast, who long for deeper inner peace, and who seek to slow down, calm down, and live more fully each day.  The techniques covered will also help students seeking their spiritual centers to regain the sense of “at-one-ment” with God.

Tuesdays, April 5 – May 24, 7:00pm – 8:30pm

Place:  CPC Center at Little Falls Presbyterian Church, 6025 Little Falls Road, Arlington

Tuition:  $200/person for the 8 sessions

SO, WHAT IS REALLY GOING ON?

Our Vision

Luminea Institute will strengthen CPC’s partnership in ministry with congregations by responding to on-going requests for psycho-spiritual education.  The Institute welcomes referrals and thereby will create a closer working relationship with Northern Virginia mental health providers and agencies.

Following the well-received Spring 2004 introduction, the Institute is expanding its offerings of psycho-spiritual education experiences.  We are in the process of creating a trimester schedule that includes a minimum of 10 courses each for Fall 2004 and Spring 2005, and 6 courses for Summer 2005.

In addition to a full trimester of courses, Luminea Institute will bring relevant discussion of important contemporary issues into the greater community by developing a formal Speaker’s Bureau, making use of public access television, and creating CDs and tapes on special topics.

Luminea Institute will initially draw on the wisdom and experience of CPC clinical staff as core faculty.  The Institute envisions recruiting adjunct faculty from the greater Washington, D.C. metro area as well as leading spiritual teachers from across the United States.

Please join us as the adventure continues!
