THE REVEREND GARY L. McMICHAEL, LCSW, MDiv, is a licensed clinical social worker and an ordained minister in the Presbyterian Church (USA). Gary is an innovative and energetic therapist with a warm personal style. His expertise includes working with couples to enhance their relationship, as well as working with individuals and families.
Gary has advanced training in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy which helps couples create more secure, safe, and enduring emotional connection. Gary is also trained in EMDR, an effective approach in working with individuals who have experienced various kinds of traumatic experiences, including childhood abuse.
Gary is a graduate of Catholic University’s School of Social Work and received a Post-Master’s Certificate in Marriage and Family Therapy at Virginia Tech. He has additional training with men’s issues, grief and loss, depression, abuse and trauma issues, and spiritual growth. Prior to entering pastoral counseling, Gary worked in parish ministry and remains interested in congregational issues.
