CPC Annual Ethics Seminar

for Mental Health Professionals

Center for Pastoral Counseling of Virginia Presents:

Ethical Issues in Self Disclosure

Featuring: Kathleen Deal, Ph.D., MSW, LCSW

Thursday, April 10th, 2008

Registration and Continental Breakfast at 9:00 AM

Program 9:30 to 12:30 (Three contact hours/CEUs)

About the seminar: Clinicians are routinely faced with decisions about how to respond to client questions or whether to spontaneously disclose personal information or reactions to their clients.  Ethical considerations in making sound decisions about self disclosure need to be informed by professional Codes of Ethics and the values underlying these Codes.  This seminar will provide participants with a framework for deciding whether, what, when, and how to self disclose that includes ethical, theoretical, and contextual considerations.

About the presenter: Kathleen Deal, Ph.D., MSW, LCSW is Associate Professor at the University of Maryland School of Social Work.  She has extensive clinical experience in community mental health as well as private practice.  Her areas of expertise and research interests include mental health, social work field education and social work student development.  In 2007 Dr. Deal received the School of Social Work’s Teaching Scholar’s Award.
